Under NJ Health Statutes, County Mosquito Commissions include as an ex-officio member on the Commission, the Director of the NJ Agricultural Experiment Stationhttp://njaes.rutgers.edu/. In conjunction with this affiliation, the mosquito control agencies in the state work closely with the mosquito control professionals in the Mosquito Research and Control unit http://vectorbio.rutgers.edu/ within the Entomology Department at Rutgers University.http://www.mosquito.rutgers.edu
Also under NJ Health Statues, County Mosquito Commissions include the NJ Commissioner of Health http://www.state.nj.us/health as an ex-officio member. Testing of mosquitoes samples collected in Warren County for mosquito-borne viruses is performed for our Commission by this state department.
The Commission works closely with the NJ State Mosquito Control Commission and the Office of Mosquito Control Coordination http://www.nj.gov/dep/mosquito/ within the NJ Department of Environmental Protection. The State Commission supports our Commission’s programs through its equipment use program (water management, surveillance and adulticiding equipment) as well as the biocontrol (fish) program.
http://www.njmca.org Commissioners and staff of the Warren County Mosquito Commission are members of this organization and participate in the associations activities. The association is established to:
“Promote and encourage close cooperation among those directly and indirectly concerned with, or interested in, mosquito control and related work, the stimulation of educational activities to increase the knowledge of mosquito control and the advancement of the cause of mosquito control and related environmental concerns in the State of New Jersey and elsewhere. The Association may also encourage such other insect control programs as the Association or Board of Trustees may determine.”
www.mosquito.org was established in New Jersey in 1935. The Warren County Mosquito Commission is a sustaining member of this international organization and pursues its mission to: “Provide leadership, information, and education leading to the enhancement of health and quality of life through the suppression of mosquitoes and other vector-transmitted diseases, and the reduction of annoyance levels caused by mosquitoes and other vectors and pests of public health importance.”
The AMCA and its sub partner, the NJMCA, participates in the US Environmental Protection Agency’s Pesticide Environmental Stewardship Program https://www.epa.gov/pesp and works to ” reduce the health and environmental risks associated with pesticide use and implement pollution prevention strategies.” by following a strategy document http://www.njmca.org/files/PESP.pdf established in New Jersey for that purpose.
The Associated Executives of Mosquito Control Work in New Jersey was established in 1921. The Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent and Entomologist are members of this organization. The association was established to “promote, preserve and protect professional standards, authority and judgment of those employed full time primarily in mosquito control in the State of New Jersey through close cooperation and coordination of the executive officer employed by each of the involved agencies.”
